{Good Thing:} File Card Guest Book

Happy Monday everyone! Even though its a holiday and I’m at home relaxing and doing wedding related stuff, I thought I would post something quick. I really like this idea of guest book which was feature in the most recent issue of Martha Stewart weddings. Even though you’ve probably seen it many times across the blog-o-spere… it doesn’t take away its cuteness. Enjoy!

File this under A for adorable. Instead of a traditional guest book, use cards from an address file. Our set, by Lovely Design, contains handmade ones from vintage papers, so each is wonderfully unique. Set cards on a table with a sign asking friends and family to jot down messages; once they’ve penned their notes, they can file their card alphabetically, leaving you to merely flip through all the warm wishes that range from A to Z.

{Good Thing} Menu Display

Even though menus aren’t always necessary to have for every single guest, it can serve as additional decoration and add that wow factor. When I came across this neat Menu display I knew I had to share it with you. Not only is this easy to make but its really stunning and adds that extra wow to any table setting. (Especially for outdoor weddings)

Good thing from MarthaStewart.com

Fashion a bill of fare to anchor beneath each plate. This idea is perfect for an outdoor wedding, since breezes won’t be able to blow the menus away. The menu here is 6 1/2 by 13 inches, folded 6 inches from the top edge. For the cleanest line on thick stock, use a straightedge and bone folder (a tool that makes creases without cutting) to score the paper before you fold.

{Good thing:} Tees and Thank You

Bad blogger that I am, I completely forgot to post an eco-friendly post for earth day (April 22nd) but its never too late - right? I thought this was a good way to save the earth one envelope at a time.

For your thank you cards, whether its after a bridal shower or to thank your the guests who attended your wedding, why not opt for postcards instead. Forget the folded thank you card - thats old school and by not having the envelope not only does it cost less its also eco-friendly… if you want to go even further make sure to use recycled paper :) Happy earth day/week… sorry about my lateness… lol

For a cute twist on personalized thank-you notes, send gift-givers postcards of you and your groom wearing clothing emblazoned with messages. Use 3-inch-high stick-on vinyl lettering, peel off the backing, and affix the letters to plain shirts. Ask a friend to take digital pictures, then upload your favorite to a computer and print onto photo paper. We ran the photos through a Xyron sticker machine, which adds an adhesive backing. Attach each photo to a blank size-A6 postcard, and voila! — picture-perfect stationery.

{Good Thing} R.S.V.P Box

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you have a great weekend. I finally mailed out all my invitations last week, so technically I should be receiving some responses in the coming weeks. When I saw this neat RSVP box, I knew I had to share it with you. It is something I will most definitely consider making.

This archival storage box helps you organize your incoming R.S.V.P. cards and store them for posterity. The box itself is ready-made. To augment it, first glue a simple calligraphed card to the outside, indicating what’s within. Next make a checklist, either by hand or on a computer, including the invitees’ names, plus spaces for you to fill in their replies and any comments. To attach this to the inside of the lid, make a special holder, as follows: Cut card stock to just smaller than lid. Cut ribbon to wrap across card stock as shown, and glue ribbon ends to back. Glue the card stock to underside of lid. Once the glue has dried, slip the checklist under the ribbon straps.

Same sex weddings

I received an email from a company promoting their same sex invitation line. To be honest, I was a bit intrigued about the whole idea because why would same sex weddings need to order invitations from a gay/lesbian focused website?

In Montreal, we have a huge gay community and naturally want to be treated like everybody else. So… why go ahead and create a stationary line especially for gays. That’s obviously doing the opposite. Doesnt make sense to me. Why not order your invites from any invitation company. I mean, its only the names that change… so why make a whole speal about it.

Maybe I’m not seeing the whole picture here… Whats your thought about this?

{Good Thing} Parasol Seating Cards

If you are having a beach themed or outdoor wedding these parasol seating cards are inexpensive and not to mention pretty. With various color options, you can pretty much match your wedding colors. I think this is a must. (I might keep this in mind for cocktail parties too)

These cheerfully colored umbrellas sporting seating assignments dot miniature sand dunes at the entrance to a summer reception.

You’ll need a 1-inch-deep tray, a sheet of 1/4-inch foam board cut to fit into bottom of the tray, and some sand. Lay the foam board in the tray, and cover with sand. Drizzle sand unevenly, sifting a bit more here and there to form dunes. Print your seating assignments onto colored paper, and cut them into strips; glue strips to the shafts of the umbrellas. Poke the umbrellas through the sand into the foam board at an angle so guests can easily find their names.

{Good Thing} Fortune Place Card

Though this following “good thing” isn’t a real good thing from Martha, I thought it deserved the praise and should be shared with the rest of the world. Fortune cookies are very popular in weddings, and this easy to do place card is perfect!

Images courtesy of MarthaStewart.com

Bring good fortune to the table with this clever place card.

Fortune Place Card How-To
1. Print messages or romantic quotations centered onto 8 1/2-by-11-inch card stock, oriented horizontally. Cut into 1/2-inch-wide strips. Turn strips over, and calligraph first and last names 1 inch from each end. Notch ends.

2. To make the “cookie,” cut patterned paper into a circle 5 1/2 inches in diameter (if you like, make a cardboard template using a compass). Roll circle into a loose tube. Overlap ends about 1/2 inch and secure with doublesided tape. Hold the tube so that the top flap is pointing down and facing away from you. Slip a fortune into the tube with the name toward you. Fold the tube inward and secure with double-sided tape.

{Good Thing} Save-the-date Postcards

Weather you are having a destination wedding, or if you have several guests out of town, Save-the-dates are important to notify your guest of your upcoming wedding. There are endless ways to make your save-the-dates. I personally didn’t make any, since I don’t have any out of town guests, but these Save-the-date Postcards are cute, easy to make an not to mention cost efficient.

These charming save-the-dates prove good news can come in small packages, too. Purchase mini cards and envelopes (Motel Deluxe made these 2-by-3-inch sets). Run envelopes through a machine that adds adhesive backing (we used one from Xyron), and affix to postcards (either store-bought or cut from card stock). Handwrite or stamp your wedding information on the cards; tuck them in the envelopes, and seal. Add standard first-class postage, and you’re set to announce you’ve set the date.

To kill a Mockingbird

I received a very exciting email last week from Viola, announcing the official launch of Chewing the Cud. As soon as I got the email… I hurried to see what goods she had. Awesome designer, Viola offers a wide range of services. From designs to invitations, you are sure to find something you love.

I personally fell in love with Viola’s own stationery for her wedding which took place last fall. Here’s the oh-so perfect introduction from her site “Viola loves books. Phillip loves movies. “To Kill a Mockingbird” was their favourite story of all time and became the inspiration for the wedding. From child-like bird illustrations to references in book forms and movie elements, the entire event was designed to bring to life this sweet coming-of-age story. “

The details of this wedding are spectacular; from the table numbers to the bridesmaid bouquets, every little detail is as important as the event itself. I love a bird theme, but this wedding is top notch.

I think my favorite thing of all would be the bouquets and ring bearer “pillow”. How ingenious, to use a book mixed with flowers for the bouquets… oh and ribbon for the ring bearer pillow… reminds me of the schoolbooks from the olden days. So appropriate and so unique.

I love it when brides step out of the box - hurray!!! How about those little birdies… aren’t they so adorable… I see a bright future of interesting paper elements - from moving cards, to baby announcement, how neat to keep the wedding stationery live on forever… like the love you both share for each-other. Check out her site for more ideas…. but I must admit this wedding theme is hard to beat.
